Our Story

Tiger Tonic first launched in Sydney, Australia, in the summer of 2014 and will soon be re-launching in the US.

Here is the story of how it all began, as told by Founder & Chief Brewing Officer, Sydney Berry Ling:

“One day in early 2014, the thought popped into my head about how much I enjoy Thai Iced Tea. I first had the deliciously creamy beverage during my visit to Thailand in June 2009. Not only did I love the tea, but the colors, culture, people and massages (oh yes) have all remained a part of who I am. (See photos below from that trip)

A dessert tea with a striking orange color, Thai Iced Tea is a staple at restaurants, cafés and local street vendors throughout the country. Few places in Sydney offered it, so I thought, “Why not do my part to change that?”

As the months rolled on, I researched, experimented and toyed around with different ideas for my first social business. Soon after, a name developed: Tiger Tonic. In the old days (late 1800s-early 1900s), ‘tonics’ were often sold by traveling salesmen to those looking for cures to their many ills: dry scalp, liver trouble, crying baby… you name it, they wanted a cure for it. Over time, the word has become synonymous with anything that is refreshing, relieving or curing in some way. Tea certainly fits that description! And as far as the ‘Tiger’ bit goes – tigers are just cool. Am I right?

After an open door and a rush to meet a tight deadline, Tiger Tonic officially launched on August 2, 2014 at Glebe Markets in Sydney. We couldn’t have been happier with the response! We went on to sell our teas at Glebe Markets, Brewery Yard Markets and a local café before relocating to the US that following February. It was such an incredible experience!”

There's only one earth, so let's treat it right. From our tea bars, we serve our iced teas in biodegradable, plant-based cups made in the USA and plan to sell our own reusable tumblers which will provide return customers with a discount. We believe that our small, everyday choices are what make the biggest difference.

VALUE QUALITY.

We brew our teas in small batches to guarantee that our customers receive the freshest iced tea around. Our teas are sweetened – but never over-sweetened – with Organic Cane Sugar or fresh-squeezed fruit juice.

ENJOY LIFE.

Every day is a gift. Life undoubtedly has its ups & downs, but we have much to be thankful for! All in all, we aim to be present, breathe deeply, keep our eyes open to the beauty that surrounds us and embrace the journey. Carpe diem!
